Our approach is rooted in harm reduction, empowerment, and an understanding of the intersectional challenges faced by our community.
Our SUD counseling services offer personalized, one-on-one support to help individuals navigate the complexities of substance use and its impact on their lives. At KAMCSC, we embrace a harm reduction philosophy, recognizing that substance use is a complex issue. Our goal is to reduce the negative impacts of substance use while supporting individuals in making informed decisions about their health and well-being. This includes providing education on safer substance use practices and offering tools like fentanyl test strips and Narcan to prevent overdoses.

Our counselors are trained in cultural humility and are committed to providing care that is respectful, affirming, and trauma-informed.
Our SUD counseling services are part of a holistic approach to wellness. We collaborate with other programs within KAMCSC to connect clients to additional resources, such as mental health counseling, peer support groups, reentry assistance, and housing support, ensuring a continuum of care.

Krystal Archer Michaels (Robert Stephens) was a beloved drag queen, advocate, and national leader who dedicated her life to advancing LGBTQIA+ and QTPOC (Queer, Trans, People of Color) communities. Her reach extended far beyond the Central Valley, influencing lives statewide and across the nation through her advocacy, activism, and unwavering commitment to equity and inclusion.
Krystal began her leadership journey as Express 41 of the Imperial San Joaquin Delta Empire, part of the International Court System—one of the world’s oldest and largest LGBTQIA+ organizations. Her passion and impact grew as she became Empress 46 of the Orange County Imperial Court, where she championed the rights and well-being of the queer community. She received numerous titles and honors from Imperial Courts nationwide, including Long Beach, solidifying her as a cherished figure in the LGBTQIA+ community.
Krystal was a fierce advocate for QTPOC individuals and especially queer youth, dedicating her life to advancing gender-affirming care, harm reduction, and resources for those most marginalized. Whether working locally or nationally, she inspired countless individuals to embrace their identities and fight for systemic change. Her presence, both on and off the stage, brought joy, hope, and empowerment to all who knew her.
Tragically, we lost Krystal Archer Michaels to cancer in 2022. Her passing was a profound loss to the community, but her legacy lives on through the Krystal Archer Michaels Clinical Services Clinic (KAMCSC) at Central Valley Gender Health and Wellness. This clinic honors her vision of a world where all individuals, regardless of their identity, are celebrated, affirmed, and given the resources they need to thrive.
Krystal Archer Michaels was more than a leader—she was a trailblazer, a mentor, and a beacon of hope for so many. Her contributions continue to inspire us as we work to carry forward her vision and legacy.
We appreciate our clients, so feel free to visit during normal business hours.
